The TaxAgents' Institute of New Zealand (TINZ) exists to promote the welfare and professional development of its members and to represent members' interests in New Zealand. It is unique in the New Zealand tax and accounting market because of its grassroots contact with members.

Congratulations to our Open Polytechnic prize winners
Carol Bovey - NZ Diploma in Business

"I was delighted to win the TINZ tax prize because I had set my sights on it from the beginning. It motivated me to work that much harder, amid the usual pressures of family and work on distance study. Thanks TINZ!

Beyond being an individual taxpayer, I had no prior experience of taxation and I thoroughly enjoyed this paper. I credit my Open Polytechnic tutor Ruth McIntosh for making the subject clear and interesting.

I am halfway through my NZ Diploma in Business, which I am doing for further career opportunities. Prior to having children I worked in IT support, then through voluntary roles I found that I also really enjoy number crunching and administration. I'm currently employed at Arohanui Kindergarten in Tokoroa as their administrator."

Hayley Suter - Bachelor of Business

"I started off my working life as a scientist, but that training really wasn't taking me where I wanted to go. Then I had children, and was lucky to be able to choose to stay home and enjoy them while retraining for a career that would meet my needs. Four years later, the kids are at school and I have a Bachelor of Business in Accounting from the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand. I really enjoyed my studies, and can't wait to find a graduate position where I can put what I've learnt into practice. I believe an accountancy-based career will provide me with ongoing challenges and variety in the work place while allowing me to enjoy family, friends and the many attractions Dunedin and Otago have to offer.

I am currently enrolled in a Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting to complete NZICA degree requirements for the CA program starting in 2013 and am actively looking for a graduate position in Dunedin beginning in the second half of 2012, or 2013."

Congratulations Carol and Hayley.
